Building Sustainable Writing Practices with Lee Kofman

Enrich your practice with motivation, reflection and practical routines

Join experienced author and editor Lee Kofman for an inspiring course that will motivate you to develop and sustain positive and practical writing habits.

Jeanette Winterson advises: ‘Turn up for work. Discipline allows creative freedom. No discipline equals no freedom.’ This is the writing paradox: the most reliable pathway into the wilderness of writing reverie runs through a strict regime. In this course I’ll be offering you strategies to nurture both discipline and artistic freedom in your writing. We’ll look at common principles of sustainable practice, but I’ll also offer you tools to work out what you individually need in order to manage your writing practice as well as to summon your muses and to deal with potential creative blockages.

You’ll learn:

  • To establish sustainable writing routines
  • To identify what motivates and inspires you
  • To establish an ongoing reflective practice
  • To deal with creative problems effectively
  • To pay attention to the physical aspects of writing: your body and your environment

The course is self-paced, and you can dip in and out as you wish. However, acquiring healthy writing habits—as is the case with any new habits—takes time and repetition. For best results, we suggest doing this course slowly—preferably over several months—and, more importantly, regularly.

"Lee's course helped me form and cement good writing habits. It also confirmed my quirky notions of inspiration and pre-writing rituals. Highly recommended for writers in all stages of formation and career."

"Lee Kofman's warmth and honesty makes her teaching style incredibly effective. Her course gave me so much more than I expected, and I know I will return to it again and again. Thank you KYD for providing inspiring and practical courses with wonderfully caring and supportive teachers."
